Nitty Gritty

Here are some details you should know:
  • The course is a 50-mile loop around the south end of Oahu.  This is NOT a race; it is intended to be a fun, social, roving picnic.  Enjoy!
  • Runners can do the entire 50 miles or just a portion.  If you decide to only do a portion, transportation is your responsibility.  There may be others that would also like to do a portion.  You can post on the Sweetheart’s Facebook page to coordinate with other runners for drop-offs and pick-ups.
  • The run is primarily on busy streets at night.  SAFETY IS PRIORITY #1!!  Reflective materials/clothing, headlamps, flashing blinkers, and flashlights are required.  There will be sections without street lighting. You cannot be too illuminated.  We want to light up the night and be seen!
  • Running with a group, rather than taking off on your own, is also highly recommended.  There is safety in numbers.  We will not leave anyone behind; be mindful that if you want aid, you should not get too separated from others.
  • There will be vehicular support.  In the event of illness or injury, there will be transportation.  You may have a small bag that may go into one of the support vehicles.  Be mindful that your access to the vehicles may be only every 2 hours or so.  If there is something you will need more frequently than that, you need to carry it with you (specifically, rain and/or cold weather gear).
  • Carrying a copy of the route map and/or the route description is recommended.  A cell phone is also a very good thing to have with you.
  • There is plenty of food and drink available at aid stations, spaced approximately every 5-6 miles.  A hydration belt with bottles or a pack is required to carry enough fluids in between aid stations.
  • Parking at the start/finish is somewhat limited.  Please carpool if possible and/or use on-street parking in the neighborhood.
  • Although the group may be spread apart by the end, please plan to stay and have breakfast before heading home.
Here is a list of items you may want to carry with you:

  • Electrolyte tabs, tums (yes, there is plenty of food), vitamin I
  • Light rain jacket and/or warm shirt
  • Extra socks
  • Blister fixins’
  • Cell phone
  • Lights, lights, and more lights
  • A smile and awesome attitude
